Seattle-based Navy reserve officer Ben Brown attended boat parades and air shows marking the 250th anniversary from Battery Park City's Wagner Park on July 4, 2026. nypost.com reported that Brown, wearing his Navy whites, drew attention from passersby who stopped to take photos with him. Brown said he was surprised by the response.
“I was kind of surprised. I mean, you know, coming from Seattle, the flavor is a little different sometimes,” he told nypost.com. Tall ships paraded under flyovers as part of the International Parade of Sail during Sail250 in New York the same day.
Brown said the scene reflected continued public interest in the country. “It’s nice to see everybody is still kind of excited about the country,” Brown stated. He added that the anniversary offered a chance to revisit national origins.
“It’s just an exciting time to kind of renew our founding purpose,” Brown said. ” Brown said he planned to spend the day touring Manhattan while events continued across the city.
