Commissioner Adam Silver said after the league's Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday night that he and Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum will meet with groups interested in owning teams during the days surrounding the FIFA World Cup final on Sunday in the New York area.
Silver told reporters that interest has come from multiple European cities, including some that were not invited to submit bids.
He added that the league is finalizing bids for an initial group of cities. The NBA and FIBA announced the plan last year. "We've had tremendous interest from multiple cities in Europe, including cities that we didn't ask for bids from," Silver said.
"Things are where I hope they would be," Silver said.
