The National Bureau of Investigation on Monday recommended that the Department of Justice file reckless imprudence resulting in two counts of homicide charges against former Ateneo men's basketball head coach Tab Baldwin and seven other staff members.
The recommendation covers assistant coaches Jon Jacinto, Dean Castaño, and Sandro Soriano, strength and conditioning coaches CJ Elumba and Grant Dearns, physical therapist Jeric Rueca, and Ateneo men's basketball team B assistant coach Buboy Domingo.
Adili drowned during a seawater activity that formed part of the Blue Eagles' team building at the Hermanos Leisure Farm and Surf Camp in Dipaculao, Aurora, on June 8. Other players nearly drowned as well. The NBI also recommended simple negligence resulting in two counts of homicide charges against resort owners Francisco and Frederick Zubia, resort manager Yedda Rubio, and Ateneo athletic director Em Fernandez.
Earlier police action On June 26, the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group filed a complaint for violation of the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018 against Baldwin, Jacinto, Castaño, Soriano, Rueca, Dearns, Elumba, and three other individuals.
The CIDG later recommended two counts of homicide and two counts of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide against Baldwin, Jacinto, Castaño, Soriano, Rueca, Dearns, Elumba, Fernandez, and Ateneo sports facility officer Vince Mangulabnan. Listed as complainants are Baterbonia's mother, Rovelyn, the Embassy of Nigeria, and the NBI.
