Nebraska launches first Power 4 flag football program with four 2026 commits

The University of Nebraska announced it will field the first Power 4 flag football program and has received commitments from four athletes in the Class of 2026. The program will not begin competition until 2028, matching the NCAA recommendation that flag football become a national collegiate championship sport by that year.

Officials said roster building has already started through offers and commitments.

First commitments A quarterback from Colorado accepted an offer in April and became the program's first commit. She led her high school team to consecutive state titles and recorded 8,890 passing yards over her final two seasons. A wide receiver and defensive back from Nevada committed after helping her school win three state championships.

She recorded more than 10,000 total yards, 143 touchdowns, and 70 interceptions during her high school career. A wide receiver from Florida committed after catching 39 passes for 399 yards and eight touchdowns in her most recent season. She had previously committed to another school for volleyball before switching to flag football.

A wide receiver and safety from Florida also committed after leading her school to a district title. She finished the season with 51 receptions and 15 touchdowns and earned first-team county honors.

Additional offers The university has extended offers to other athletes who have not yet committed. Two players from the Classes of 2027 and 2028 remain unsigned. The remainder of the roster consists of transfers from other flag football programs and athletes moving from different sports.
