Netanyahu Interview Airs on 60 Minutes Following Bari Weiss Booking

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's first major U.S. broadcast interview since the start of the Iran war aired Sunday on 60 Minutes with Major Garrett. CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss personally booked the sit-down and offered Netanyahu a choice between Garrett and Lesley Stahl. The decision is part of broader changes at the program as its season ends.

U.S. broadcast interview since the start of the Iran war. CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss personally booked the interview.

She gave Netanyahu a choice between Garrett and Lesley Stahl. Major Garrett is chief Washington correspondent for CBS News but is not a 60 Minutes correspondent. Weiss offered the choice as part of a last-ditch effort to secure the interview for the network, sources close to the situation said.

"Bari did what she had to do to secure the interview," an insider told The Post. Reps for Netanyahu did not return requests for comment. A CBS News representative pointed to the network’s prior statement that it is the editor in chief’s job to make decisions about bookings and interviews.

Lesley Stahl has reported for 60 Minutes since 1991. The move to allow a subject to choose their own interviewer is frowned upon but not unheard of. President Trump said he picked ABC News’ Terry Moran to interview him last year.

Some insiders told The Post that Netanyahu likely preferred Garrett because he was viewed as a more agreeable interviewer. In the interview Benjamin Netanyahu said the war in Iran was not over.

U.S. Military financial support for Israel eventually. The Netanyahu sit-down marked the second time in recent months that Weiss secured a marquee interview for 60 Minutes only to hand the assignment to Garrett. In March, Weiss secured a marquee interview for 60 Minutes with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and assigned it to Major Garrett.

Bari Weiss is opening up 60 Minutes to the news division, a source close to Weiss said. Norah O’Donnell will get more airtime on 60 Minutes next season. Matt Gutman is expected to make appearances on 60 Minutes.

Tony Dokoupil is expected to make appearances on 60 Minutes. A source with knowledge told The Post that Weiss’ move to bring more voices into the 60 Minutes tent is part of her larger strategy for the show. Sharyn Alfonsi’s contract is set to expire at the end of the month.

The network is not expected to renew Sharyn Alfonsi’s contract. She has retained high-profile attorney Bryan Freedman. Tanya Simon’s contract is up this year. Tanya Simon resisted airing Major Garrett’s interview with Netanyahu on 60 Minutes and floated placing it on another CBS News program.

She convinced her staff to let this one go. 60 Minutes’ season ends on Sunday.
