The Netherlands will prohibit the import, purchase, sale, and brokering of goods from Israeli settlements in the Palestinian Territories beginning September 22, 2026, the Dutch government announced Tuesday. The government first approved the sanctions on May 22, 2026.
The Council of State reviewed the plan and recommended no changes. Officials described the settlements as unlawful under international law and said the restrictions prevent the Netherlands from contributing to that situation.
September 22, the ban will cover imports of settlement goods, purchases and sales of those goods inside the Netherlands, and services that facilitate trade in them. Circumvention of the rules will also be prohibited.
The government said practical enforcement will be difficult and described the measure as largely symbolic. The announcement follows a May 2026 decision and comes amid ongoing protests in the Netherlands over policy toward the region.
