Registered Republicans and Democrats in Nevada vote in closed primaries Tuesday for governor and two U.S. House seats. The state faces an affordable housing shortage, rising energy demand from data centers, and federal reductions in some state programs.

Democratic candidates include state Attorney General Aaron Ford, who has support from the state's congressional delegation and former Vice President Kamala Harris, and county commissioner Alexis Hill. Both candidates have focused on housing costs, gasoline prices, and federal cuts to healthcare and food assistance.

Ford has criticized Gov. Joe Lombardo and President Donald Trump over economic conditions. He is seeking to become the state's first Black governor. Lombardo, the Republican incumbent, faces the Democratic nominee in November in one of the nation's most competitive gubernatorial contests.

In the 2nd District, Republicans are selecting a nominee to succeed retiring Rep. Mark Amodei. President Donald Trump has endorsed David Flippo. Former state senator James Settelmeyer has the backing of Amodei and Lombardo. Registered Republicans outnumber Democrats by 70,000 in the district, which has been held by Republicans since its creation in the 1980s.

Democratic candidates in the 2nd District include former state Assembly majority leader Teresa Benitez-Thompson and investor Greg Kidd. In the 3rd District, several Republicans are competing to face Democratic Rep. Susie Lee. Candidates include Marty O'Donnell, Jeff Gunter, Aury Nagy, and Tera Anderson.

Ford term-limited, Democrats are choosing a nominee for attorney general. Candidates include state Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro and Treasurer Zach Conine. Both have said they would file lawsuits against the Trump administration. Republicans seeking the attorney general nomination include Adriana Guzmán Fralick and Danny Tarkanian.

Both have campaigned on election integrity issues. Several Republicans are also running for secretary of state, the office that oversees elections. The winner will face Democratic Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar in November. Some candidates have said they want to end universal mail ballots or require paper ballots counted by hand.
