A Marist Institute for Public Opinion poll released around that time found 48% of city adults approved of his performance, 30% disapproved, and 23% were unsure, yielding a net approval of 18 percentage points.
The same poll indicated that most New Yorkers believe the city is moving in the right direction under Mamdani.
Support varied by demographics and location. Approval stood at 63% among Democrats and 25% among Republicans, with 20% of Democrats and 63% of Republicans disapproving.
Approval was higher among younger residents, with 60% of those aged 18-29 approving compared to 37% of those aged 45-59.
By borough, 55% of Manhattan residents and 54% of Brooklyn residents approved, while in Staten Island, 57% disapproved and 27% approved. In contrast, a 2022 Marist poll after Eric Adams' first 100 days showed 61% overall approval. That survey, conducted March 1-8, 2022, with 891 respondents, found more balanced partisan support, including 26% of Republicans rating Adams' performance as good and 32% as fair.

Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute, noted in 2022 that Adams was not a polarizing figure, a characterization that differs for Mamdani based on the new data.
