Neymar says Brazil career finished after World Cup loss to Norway

Neymar said his international career with Brazil had finished after the team's 2-1 loss to Norway in the round of 16 at the World Cup on Sunday. The 34-year-old scored a stoppage-time penalty as Brazil conceded twice to Erling Haaland. The result marked Brazil's earliest exit from the tournament since 1990.

Neymar slumped to the ground in tears at the final whistle before teammates consoled him. He later told Globo that he started and finished his Brazil career at the same stadium.

Limited participation A right calf injury restricted Neymar to two appearances in the tournament. He played 15 minutes against Scotland in the group stage and entered as a substitute in the 67th minute against Norway.

Coach comments Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said the squad would use the defeat as motivation for the next cycle. He described the result as disappointing and said the team did not deserve to lose. Ancelotti added that the group worked hard and that the country must now manage the transition to a new generation of players.
