NHL teams complete multiple trades ahead of 2026 draft

Multiple trades involving established players and high draft picks occurred in the lead-up to the 2026 NHL Draft. The Florida team acquired two forwards, the Chicago team sent its fourth overall selection to another club in exchange for a defenseman, and the Washington team obtained two additional forwards.
Four other players also changed teams before the draft began. Reports indicated two additional forwards were available in trade discussions.
Draft weekend activity The Winnipeg team’s general manager stated the club had received offers for its starting goaltender. The player remains under contract through 2031, and the executive said no offer had prompted further action. A forward under contract with the Dallas team declined an offer reportedly valued near $15 million annually from the Seattle team, according to media reports.
The forward can become a restricted free agent on July 1.
Draft assets The San Jose team’s general manager confirmed receiving inquiries about its ninth overall selection and additional assets. After completing one trade, the St. Louis team holds four first-round picks, including consecutive selections at 15 and 16.
