Three NHL clubs swapped wingers in separate trades this week. The moves occurred before the July 1 free-agency period and involved salary-cap adjustments plus draft selections.
trade Utah sent forward JJ Peterka to another club.
The team had acquired Peterka the previous year in exchange for Josh Doan and Michael Kesselring. Doan recorded 25 goals and 52 points in his first season after the trade. Peterka averaged 0.88 points per game in his final season with Buffalo and 0.57 points per game during his season with Utah. The transaction left Utah with $21.025 million in projected cap space, according to PuckPedia.
Jackets trade Columbus acquired forward Valeri Nichushkin from Colorado. The Blue Jackets sent a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 third-round pick, and a 2028 fifth-round pick to the Avalanche. Nichushkin posted 17 goals and 49 points in 72 games last season. He has recorded 20-plus goals in three of the past five seasons and contributed during Colorado's 2022 Stanley Cup run.
trade Washington completed a sign-and-trade for forward Alex Tuch. Tuch agreed to an eight-year extension with an average annual value of $10.5 million. Buffalo received a third-round pick in the upcoming draft and the rights to forward David Kampf.
