NHTSA Orders Honda Recall of Nearly 99,000 Vehicles Over Airbag Sensor
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced a recall covering certain Acura TLX, Accord Hybrid, and 2022 Accord models. The action addresses a front passenger seat weight sensor that may crack and short-circuit.
The IndependentU.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Friday that Honda is recalling nearly 99,000 vehicles because a front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short-circuit. The defect could cause the passenger airbag to deploy when an infant in a child seat or a child is present, situations in which the airbag should normally remain suppressed.
The recall covers certain Acura TLX, Accord Hybrid, and 2022 Accord vehicles. Dealers will replace the defective seat weight sensors at no cost to owners.
This is Honda's largest recall since 2025, when the company addressed a software issue affecting more than 256,600 Accord Hybrid vehicles from the 2023 to 2025 model years. That recall involved an integrated control module that could reset while driving, increasing crash risk.
American Honda stated that improper software programming by a supplier caused the earlier problem. The company first learned of the issue in March 2024, received 832 warranty claims, and reported no related injuries between mid-December 2022 and late October 2025.
