Nigeria Sends Air Peace Flight to Evacuate Citizens from South Africa Before Protests
An Air Peace aircraft left Nigeria on Monday evening and is due to return from South Africa early Tuesday with another group of citizens. The flight forms part of a voluntary repatriation program approved earlier this month.

AllAfrica reported that the federal government confirmed the next evacuation flight bringing Nigerians home from South Africa will depart Tuesday. An Air Peace aircraft left Nigeria at 3:00 pm on Monday, June 29, 2026, and is scheduled to arrive in South Africa around 9:00 pm local time before departing again at midnight for arrival at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday morning.
The operation continues a voluntary evacuation program approved by President Bola Tinubu earlier this month.
On June 7 the government announced five Air Peace flights after screening more than 500 citizens. Two earlier batches had already returned 328 people, with 262 arriving June 11 and 66 arriving June 25. AllAfrica reported that the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria advised citizens remaining in South Africa to avoid unnecessary movement, stay away from protest venues, and remain vigilant ahead of demonstrations expected to begin June 30.
The federal government said it is working with South African authorities to protect Nigerians while the repatriation continues. The evacuation exercise is coordinated by the federal government together with Air Peace and relevant agencies.
