AllAfrica reported that the operation targeted a secluded compound used to manufacture and store the firearms. The raid was conducted by troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.
It relied on credible intelligence and was executed in collaboration with other security agencies. Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, confirmed the details in a statement on Thursday. He said the troops conducted a carefully planned operation on the compound deliberately concealed by the suspects.
"During a thorough search of the premises, troops recovered five locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and arrested two suspected arms manufacturers and suppliers," Danja said. The suspects are alleged to have been supplying weapons to terrorist groups. The two men remain in military custody undergoing preliminary interrogation.
Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other syndicate members, including financiers and collaborators. The Theatre Command commended the troops and partner agencies for their professionalism and urged residents of the North-West to continue providing timely and credible intelligence.
