Nintendo to Release EU Version of Switch 2 With Replaceable Batteries
Nintendo confirmed it will sell a Switch 2 variant in the European Union that meets new battery-replacement rules. The model carries a distinct product code and will be sold separately from versions offered elsewhere.
EngadgetNintendo stated it is preparing a version of the Switch 2 that allows users to replace the battery themselves. The company said the change is part of its effort to meet a European Union regulation that takes effect in 2027. The rule requires that batteries in certain appliances sold in the EU be easily removable by consumers after February 18, 2027.
Nintendo's announcement referred to future products whose model numbers begin with the prefix BEE, the same code used for the Switch 2 and its related hardware.
EU market will carry unique model numbers and display the code OSM on their packaging. Nintendo indicated these units will be treated as separate products for regulatory compliance. The company did not mention any plans for consoles using the older HAC product code.
It also did not state when the new EU-compliant Switch 2 will go on sale or what its price will be. The original Switch 2 launched in 2025 with a larger screen, more built-in storage, and improved performance compared with the first Switch model.
