North Korea Issues Stamps for Treaty Anniversary and Xi Visit
North Korea released two new stamps on July 7 marking the 65th anniversary of its 1961 mutual defense treaty with China and Chinese President Xi Jinping's June state visit to Pyongyang. The Korea Stamp Corp. unveiled the stamps on its website.

North Korea issued two new stamps on July 7 to mark the 65th anniversary of its mutual defense treaty with China and Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Pyongyang last month. The Pyongyang-based Korea Stamp Corp. unveiled the stamps on its website.
One commemorates the July 11, 1961 signing of the North Korea-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance by North Korean state founder Kim Il-sung and then-Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. The second marks Xi's June 8-9 visit, his first state visit to North Korea in seven years.
At the summit, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Xi vowed to strengthen bilateral ties through expanded exchanges in the economy, culture and other sectors, as well as more frequent high-level visits.
The two leaders exchanged letters on June 15 to mark Xi's birthday and again on July 1 to mark the founding of the Chinese Communist Party. The treaty anniversary falls on July 11, when the two countries are expected to hold congratulatory events and announce follow-up measures.
North Korea issued similar commemorative stamps in April 2018 after Kim's first state visit to China and in 2011 for the treaty's 50th anniversary.
