North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song met Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing on July 11 to discuss expanding exchanges and cooperation across all spheres. The meeting occurred on the 65th anniversary of the friendship treaty signed July 11, 1961, by North Korean founder Kim Il-sung and Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai.
It followed an agreement reached by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Chinese President Xi Jinping during their summit in Pyongyang in June.
Pak claimed relations between Pyongyang and Beijing have reached a new high level. He vowed to strengthen friendship and solidarity between the two countries. Li stated that defending and consolidating ties with Pyongyang remains the steadfast policy of the Chinese government.
He described the two countries as neighbors sharing destiny. A North Korean delegation led by Pak arrived in Beijing on July 10. During the visit, Pak paid a courtesy call on President Xi and met with Li and other top-ranking Chinese officials.
