Norway defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in Dallas to reach the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup. The result marks Norway's first knockout-stage appearance in the tournament and matches its best previous finish from 1998. Erling Haaland scored the winning goal from a Patrick Berg cross. The strike was his fifth of the tournament in three matches.
Haaland has now scored 60 goals in 53 senior appearances for Norway. He has found the net in each of his past 13 competitive matches, including two goals each against Iraq and Senegal. He scored twice during Norway's 4-1 qualifying win over Italy that secured the team's first major-tournament berth since Euro 2000.
Norway will face Brazil in the round of 16.
Manager Stale Solbakken said Haaland is the greatest goal scorer in the world today. The team rested Haaland for its group-stage match against France but returned him to the starting lineup for the match against Ivory Coast.
