Norway Beats Brazil to Reach World Cup Quarterfinals as Haaland Scores Two

Norway defeated Brazil to reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in its history. Erling Haaland scored two goals in the match, bringing his tournament total to seven in four games, ESPN reported. Haaland also scored in Norway's first-ever World Cup knockout win over Ivory Coast.

He had scored 16 goals during UEFA qualifying to help the team reach its first World Cup in 28 years. Haaland was born in Leeds, England, during the summer his father, Alfie Haaland, moved from Leeds United to Manchester City. The family returned to Norway in 2003, and Haaland joined Bryne's youth system before playing for Norway's Under-15 team in 2015.

He holds dual English-Norwegian nationality. Former England manager Gareth Southgate said in 2020 that Haaland was already in the Norwegian youth system when he broke into first-team football. "We wouldn't have been into him when he was still in Yorkshire," Southgate stated.

Haaland said last season that he lived in England for three and a half or four years. "I lived in Norway for such a long time so it was natural for me to choose Norway," he said.
