Norway edges Ivory Coast 2-1 in World Cup round of 32 despite fewer shots

Norway defeated Côte d'Ivoire 2-1 in a World Cup round-of-32 match on June 30 in Dallas and advanced to the round of 16. Antonio Nusa scored Norway's opening goal in the first half with a right-footed curler into the top corner. Erling Haaland scored the winner with four minutes remaining.

Côte d'Ivoire recorded more shots on goal, more shots on target and 48 touches in the opposition penalty area compared with Norway's 25. Haaland has now scored in each of his first three World Cup appearances, bringing his total to five goals in three games. He has scored in every one of Norway's competitive fixtures since October 2023, with 25 goals in 13 appearances.

Norway's previous win without Haaland scoring was a 2-0 victory against the Faroe Islands in November 2023. Norway will face Brazil in the round of 16 on Sunday in New Jersey. Norway has never lost in four previous meetings against Brazil.

Tuesday's result marked Norway's first-ever World Cup knockout-stage win. Norway has never won a major tournament. Captain Martin Odegaard, wingers Antonio Nusa and Oscar Bobb, and midfielders Sander Berge and Patrick Berg featured for Norway.
