Nvidia's Kyber NVL144 AI server rack architecture has been pushed back to 2028. The delay results from difficulties producing a key printed circuit board. Asian technology stocks fell after the report.
airedale.futurecdn.netNvidia has delayed its Kyber NVL144 rack architecture to 2028 because of manufacturing problems with the PCB midplane, a specialized multi-layer circuit board that connects electronic modules. The system was originally planned to debut in 2027 alongside Vera Rubin Ultra chips.
The rack is designed to house 144 of Nvidia's most powerful chips in one unit, with graphics processing units mounted vertically in compute trays to increase density and cut latency.
A larger NVL576 system that would link eight racks through optical connections is also likely delayed or restricted to small volumes. Nvidia had considered bolting two current-generation racks together as a workaround, but cloud customers rejected the approach over its awkward design and high operational costs, leading the company to cancel the plan.
Nvidia's current-generation Rubin systems remain in full production and are scheduled to begin shipping this fall to eight cloud partners, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.

SemiAnalysis projects Nvidia's data-center compute revenue will run 20 percent above Wall Street consensus in the second half of fiscal 2027.
