Off Campus TV Series Draws 39 Million Viewers in First Week
The eight-episode adaptation of Elle Kennedy's novel premiered May 15 on Amazon Prime Video. It reached the platform's top ranking among female viewers aged 18-34.
The eight-episode series Off Campus premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 15 and recorded 39 million viewers in its first week. The show also became the streamer's highest-ranked debut among women aged 18-34. Josh Heuston, 29, plays Justin Kohl, a musician and the frontman of a band called After Hours.
The character is the love interest of the lead female role in the story set at the fictional Briar U college.
Heuston said he auditioned by singing and playing guitar for the first time in front of others, performing Revelry by Kings of Leon. He later worked with music coaches and created a Spotify playlist to develop the character. The series adapts a young-adult romance novel in which a music student and an ice-hockey captain agree to help each other with grades and dating.
Heuston noted that the production changed the character from a football player to a musician and made him Australian.
Heuston stated that fan reaction has been positive and that the series was renewed for a second season before the first episode aired. Each season will focus on a different couple. Heuston, who grew up in Baulkham Hills, Sydney, said he has received messages from parents asking him to speak with children facing bullying.
