Olivia remained the most popular girls name and Liam the most popular boys name in the United States in 2025, marking the seventh consecutive year both held the top spot. S. Social Security Administration releases its annual list of the 1,000 most popular baby names ahead of Mother’s Day each year.

The list is based on Social Security card applications submitted at birth for the previous calendar year. @Independent reported that for 2025 the rankings remained mostly consistent with the prior year. Charlotte climbed to second place among girls names in 2025, ending Emma’s six-year run as the second most popular girls name.

Ava dropped from the top 10 girls names in 2025. Eliana replaced Ava in the top 10 and debuted in tenth place. Eliana means “my God has answered” in Hebrew. The top 10 girls names in 2025 were Olivia, Charlotte, Emma, Amelia, Sophia, Mia, Isabella, Evelyn, Sofia and Eliana.

On the boys side, the top 4 names in 2025 were Liam, Noah, Oliver and Theodore. No new names entered the top 10 boys names in 2025.

William and Lucas swapped places in the top 10 boys names in 2025. Liam has been the most popular boys name every year since 2017. It came second in 2014, 2015 and 2016 after climbing from third place in 2013.

Olivia has been in the top 10 girls names since 2001 and has occupied the top spot since 2019. The Social Security Administration has tracked baby names annually since 1880.

Kasai means “fire” in Japanese and Swahili. Klarity led the rising list for girls names in 2025 and is a contemporary spelling of the word “clarity”. Frank J. Bisignano is the Social Security Commissioner.

“Happy Mother’s Day to all the exceptional mothers who inspire us and guide future generations,” he said.
