The Onion Takes Over InfoWars and Will Air Two New Shows on July 2

The Onion assumed control of InfoWars and began broadcasting two new programs on July 2 at 8 p.m. ET, Usa Today reported. The shows, “Emergency with Tim Heidecker” and “The Jim Haggerty Show,” stream on TheOnion.info and on @RealInfoWars accounts across YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, Facebook, and BlueSky, and appear on gas station televisions nationwide.

Tim Heidecker serves as creative director of the revived outlet and has produced segments that mimic the gravelly voice and conspiratorial tone once associated with Alex Jones. “There are a lot of talented people making great work with very little support,” Heidecker said.

” The Onion also announced it will donate more than $100,000 to families affected by the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Sales from parody supplements and official merchandise, including hats, glasses, and sweatshirts, will support those families, who participated in developing the effort. Products listed on the site include Demon Guard Holy Protection Patches, Pure-O Oxygen Capsules, a “Learn to Float” kit, and tablets that promise to turn urine into gold.

Alex Jones promoted claims that the Sandy Hook shooting was staged and that victims were “crisis actors,” Usa Today reported.

In 2022 he lost a defamation suit filed by the families and was ordered to pay a $1.3 billion judgment. The sale of InfoWars was intended to help satisfy that award, yet Jones has paid none of the amount owed. “From the beginning, this has been about the Sandy Hook families and making sure something better comes from a platform that caused so much harm,” a representative for The Onion said.

The same representative added that the initiative seeks to convert a platform once built around fear into one that supports different content.
