Software developer Hermann Haraldsson launched Clawdmeter on May 10, 2026, creating a small device that displays Anthropic's Claude Code utilization data through pixel-art animations and charts. The lithium-ion battery-powered gadget pairs with laptops over Bluetooth and includes shortcut buttons for voice mode and editing controls.
TechCrunchA new open source project called Clawdmeter turns Claude Code usage stats into a tiny desktop dashboard. The device was launched on May 10, 2026, by Hermann Haraldsson, a software developer based in Reykjavik, Iceland. 16 display powered by a small lithium-ion battery.
The gadget pairs with a laptop over Bluetooth and reads the user's Claude Code OAuth token to make an API call, pulling usage numbers from the response headers. When turned on, the Clawdmeter displays a splash screen with pixel-art Clawd animations that get busier as usage rate climbs.
Pressing the middle button cycles through different types of animations or displays session and weekly Claude utilization data in simple charts.
The Clawdmeter has two side buttons that send Space and Shift+Tab keystrokes over Bluetooth. These controls are used for Claude Code’s voice mode and mode-toggle shortcuts between Normal, Accept Edits, Plan, and Auto modes. TechCrunch reported that Haraldsson had always wanted to play around with embedded devices but never before had the time.
“I’m not an embedded developer or anything like that,” he said. Haraldsson said Haraldsson said he used Claude to help complete the project in a few days.
Most of the time building the device was focused on design, making sure to get the font, colors, and little animations just right. Haraldsson said he enjoys watching the animations respond to his usage. Over 800 people have starred the Clawdmeter project on GitHub since its May 10 launch.
Haraldsson said he was surprised to see that over 800 people have starred it on GitHub and 50 have already forked the project. The open source nature of the project allows anyone to fork it to add their own features, animations and screens.
