OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that artificial intelligence is ushering in 'the revenge of the idea guys' in the startup world, during an onstage appearance at Stripe Sessions. Altman spoke with Stripe CEO Patrick Collison at the event, emphasizing that technical talent remains important but is no longer the sole critical factor for founding teams.

'For a long time, I think the most important ingredient that I looked for — YC looked for, that kind of this part of our industry looked for on a founding team — was technical talent,' Altman said.

He added that people who deeply understand users and cannot code are now fundable. Altman, who previously led Y Combinator, said he wants to fund those people, referring to founders who understand users but cannot code. He recounted how such individuals were once ridiculed: 'There were these people that wanted to start a company and they'd say like, 'I have the best idea.

I'm not going to tell you what it is. I just need a coder to build it for me and then I'm going to be in great shape,' Altman said. Altman made early investments in Reddit, Stripe, and Airbnb, according to Business Insider.

OpenAI was cofounded in 2015 by Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, Elon Musk, and others.
