OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Anthropic Expand AI Operations in Singapore

OpenAI and Google DeepMind both established applied AI labs in Singapore over the past year. Anthropic began advertising local positions in finance, product support, and economic research. Chinese firms have also increased their presence.

Tencent has deepened its investment in Singapore. Bright Data chose Singapore as its APAC headquarters even though 60 percent of its Asian customer base comes from China and India, chief revenue officer Gunja Gargeshwari told Fortune. Plaud hired its first Singapore-based employee in 2024.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said during a policy conference last July that the country offers regulatory clarity and strong governance despite lacking the cultural offerings of New York or Paris. The shift reflects a broader industry move from model training to monetization. BNY wealth analysts wrote in a March report that capital expenditure defined the AI cycle through 2025. OpenAI opened a regional office in Singapore in 2024.
