OpenAI Plans Unified ChatGPT Agent to Combine Products Ahead of IPO

OpenAI is developing a unified AI agent that merges ChatGPT and Codex into one interface capable of handling both simple queries and complex tasks such as trip planning and booking. At the VivaTech conference in Paris, Thibault Sottiaux, who now leads core product and platform, said the goal is a single agent that learns from users and improves over time.

The company has placed product strategy under president Greg Brockman, moved Nick Turley to lead enterprise industries, and discontinued projects including the Sora video tool in April. It also halted plans for data center projects in the U.K. and Norway.
OpenAI is preparing for a possible trillion-dollar IPO while competing with Anthropic, which recently led U.S. business adoption at 34.4 percent compared with OpenAI's 32.3 percent according to Ramp's May 2026 AI Index. Sottiaux said the same underlying system can serve both personal and work settings by connecting context and tools while minimizing risk.
Earlier agent tools such as Operator were limited by model capabilities, he added, but recent advances allow broader permissions and more accurate instruction following.
