OpenAI Posts Job for Product Manager Focused on Families, Caregivers, and Older Adults

OpenAI is hiring a dedicated product manager in San Francisco to develop experiences for families, caregivers, and older adults across its products. The posting requires experience building products for parents and families and other trust-sensitive consumer experiences.

TechCrunch reported that the share of global ChatGPT users aged 35 and older rose to 31 percent in the second quarter from 26 percent a year earlier, while the share aged 18 to 24 fell to 29 percent from 34 percent.

In the United States, nearly one in four smartphone users who are parents used ChatGPT during the quarter, up from 16 percent a year earlier. OpenAI has already introduced parental controls for teen accounts, routing of sensitive conversations to reasoning models, and an optional Trusted Contact feature that can alert a family member or caregiver in cases of potential self-harm.

The company participated in a workshop with the San Antonio Spurs Community Impact organization and the Positive Coaching Alliance to explore AI’s role in learning, coaching, and youth engagement.

A survey by the Family Online Safety Institute of more than 4,000 families in the United States and Australia found that 27 percent of U.S. parents said their child had used generative AI in the past week, while 38 percent of children reported doing so. Stephen Balkam, chief executive of the institute, described the hiring as safety by redesign.

Ben Bajarin, chief executive of Creative Strategies, told TechCrunch that the role signals OpenAI is shifting from tools for individual productivity toward technology designed for households. Sensor Tower data showed users aged 25 to 34 account for 40 percent of global app audiences for ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, while Copilot skews older with 20 percent of users aged 45 and above.
