OpenAI will begin rolling out its newest model series to a small group of trusted partners at the request of the U.S. government. The company cited cybersecurity concerns and an executive order signed earlier this month.
neowin.netOpenAI announced Friday that it will preview its GPT-5.6 model series with a small group of trusted partners before a broader public release in the coming weeks. The company shared details of the Sol, Terra and Luna models with the U.S. government ahead of the limited preview.
The Trump administration asked OpenAI to stagger the rollout over cybersecurity concerns. President Trump signed an order earlier this month that established a voluntary testing process allowing AI labs to provide models to the government up to 30 days before release. OpenAI said the partners' participation has been shared with the government.
"During this preview, we will continue testing and coordinating closely with partners as we work toward broader availability," the company stated. OpenAI described the step as short-term and said it does not believe this kind of government access process should become the long-term default.
The firm added that it is working with the administration to develop a cyber Executive Order framework and a repeatable process for future model releases.
