Opposition Party Petitions High Court Over State Comptroller Election

Yesh Atid filed a petition to the High Court of Justice on Sunday challenging the Knesset vote held three days earlier for state comptroller. The petition targets the election of the new comptroller, who had served as personal attorney to a senior government official before the vote.

The second round of voting was halted in the plenum after concerns were raised about the integrity of the vote. Coalition members were accused of filming themselves casting ballots during the session. Opposition members left the chamber during a preliminary vote on establishing a political commission of inquiry related to the process.

The petition argues the election process violated required procedures for the comptroller position.
