Opposition party Sanseito submitted a bill to the Upper House on Wednesday proposing the creation of a new agency to handle policies related to foreign nationals in Japan.
The agency would be affiliated with the Cabinet Office and led by a dedicated minister. The bill calls for abolishing the Immigration Services Agency, which is currently affiliated with the Justice Ministry, and transferring its tasks to the new agency.
The proposed agency would coordinate with other ministries and agencies on issues including labor and social welfare for foreign nationals while aiming to maintain public order.
After submitting the bill, Sanseito leader Sohei Kamiya expressed dissatisfaction with the government's current policies on foreign nationals.
