Orioles Defeat Astros 4-2 Behind Young’s Seven Innings

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Houston Astros 4-2 on Sunday to extend their winning streak to seven games, matching their longest run since 2023, as Brandon Young allowed one run over seven innings. All-Star catcher Adley Rutschman missed the game with left wrist discomfort. His replacement, 21-year-old Samuel Basallo, left after the second inning with right shoulder discomfort.

Manager Craig Albernaz said he chose not to play Rutschman on Sunday and described Basallo’s issue as a lingering problem that worsened during the game. Sam Huff was called up from Triple-A Norfolk before the game and took over behind the plate. He went 0 for 3 with a walk. 251 with eight home runs and 47 RBIs in 67 games this season.

Gunnar Henderson drove in the first run with an RBI single in the third and stole home on a double steal. The Orioles finished with a season-high four stolen bases. Leody Taveras added a two-run single in the fifth, and Coby Mayo hit a solo home run in the sixth.

Houston starter Hunter Brown allowed four runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings, issuing a career-high six walks and hitting two batters. Astros pitchers combined for seven walks and four hit batters. Yordan Alvarez hit an RBI double in the third, and Jose Altuve hit a solo home run in the eighth.

Grant Wolfram pitched a scoreless ninth for his first major league save.
