Ottawa Senators Re-sign Forward Claude Giroux to One-Year, $2 Million Contract

The Ottawa Senators re-signed forward Claude Giroux to a one-year contract on Tuesday, ESPN reported. Ottawa general manager Steve Staios said Giroux evaluated his options before choosing to stay, adding that the decision shows his belief in the group.
Staios described Giroux as a consummate professional who brings veteran experience on and off the ice. Giroux has missed just one regular-season game across four seasons with Ottawa. He scored 35 goals in 2022-23, his first year with the Senators, and added 21 goals the next season.
He enters the upcoming campaign 21 goals short of 400 for his career and will begin his 20th NHL season. Giroux said he returned because he wants to be with the team. He added that four years with the players made them close and that he cares for them.
The Flyers selected Giroux with the No. 22 pick in the 2006 NHL Draft. He finished the most recent season with 14 goals and 49 points. His return makes him a candidate to succeed Brady Tkachuk as captain after Tkachuk was traded to the Florida Panthers last month.
