Pakistan Issues Fourth LNG Tender in Two Months
Pakistan LNG Limited has issued a 1-million-ton spot-market tender for liquefied natural gas. The move follows the shutdown of Qatari LNG exports due to the Middle East conflict and rising summer electricity demand.
techjuice.pkPakistan LNG Limited has issued a new tender for 1 million tons of liquefied natural gas on the spot market, The Nation reported on June 4, 2026. The tender is the fourth such request in the past two months. The state-owned operator cited seasonal increases in electricity demand as summer temperatures rise.
Not all prior tenders have resulted in contracts because even the lowest bids were considered too expensive.
Pakistan had relied on long-term LNG supply from Qatar for years. The Middle East conflict has halted Qatari LNG production and exports, forcing the government to seek replacement volumes on the spot market. The shift has increased costs for the cash-strapped country, which previously benefited from lower-priced Qatari term contracts.
