Palantir sold all 420 units of its newly released cotton chore coat by the end of its on-sale day in late April 2026. The jacket, priced at $239 and offered in bright blue and black options, features a dainty Palantir logo on the breast pocket. The Verge reported that the limited run sold out despite online criticism of the garment's design and the company's defense contracts.

The company announced in late April 2026 that it would be adding new products to its merch store including the chore coat. Palantir declined to comment for the story published May 11, 2026. For over a year as of May 11, 2026, Palantir has been trying to sell the idea that it is a lifestyle brand.

A Palantir employee told GQ in an interview leading up to the chore coat release that the company exists to ensure that the institutions that power the United States and its allies have the best software capabilities on Earth. The same employee said wearing Palantir-branded clothing was a way for other people to hitch their wagon to this ideology.

Palantir told GQ it will introduce a tennis collection in June.

A white crewneck sweatshirt previously for sale in the Palantir shop reads “SILICON VALLEY DROPOUTS” in bold red lettering. The Verge reported that the item drew comparisons to designs by the late Virgil Abloh for Off-White. One buyer who acquired the black version of the chore coat described the sweatshirt as distasteful.

Alex, who has collected several Palantir merch items dating back to the early 2000s that he acquired secondhand including a zip-up sweatshirt issued to employees, purchased the black version of the Palantir chore coat. He stated that he sees Palantir as a foil to other parts of the tech industry that have parasitically extracted users’ data, information, and personal thoughts.

Alex stated that he sees Palantir as the antithesis of data-extractive tech companies because they are trying to get the brightest minds together to create technology that will better serve us as opposed to just use us for ad revenue.

Alex wears Palantir merchandise as a conversation piece hoping to discuss misconceptions about the company. A barista asked Alex his thoughts on Palantir technology being used to kill Palestinians. Palantir has said Israel uses its technology for war-related missions.

Palantir has an engaged base of retail investors and fans who debate what to do about Palantir’s PR problems and track company goings-on obsessively as of May 2026. The company appears to have previously hired a moderator from the company’s Subreddit into a communications role. A partner announced in 2025 that Palantir has a platform touted as the holy grail of marketing brought to life.

Connor describes himself as quite bullish on Palantir and owns merch from Tesla, Google, OpenAI, and Apple in addition to Palantir. Connor stated that it is fun to wear these items and they are a nod towards technology and brands he likes or is associated with because that is a part of his personality. Connor described himself as a bit of a sucker for company merch.

The Palantir chore coat bears similarities to a version OpenAI released in 2024 in the same bright blue, faux vintage wash, with a little logo dotting the breast pocket. Anthropic hosted a pop-up last October in the West Village in New York City marketed as an anti-AI slop gathering where attendees received a free baseball cap embroidered with the word thinking.

OpenAI released a baseball cap in September 2024 embroidered with the phrase Still thinking.
