Palestinian-American candidate Aber Kawas won a Democratic primary in New York State. She focused her campaign on affordability, immigration reform, and criticism of U.S. support for Israel. Democratic incumbents faced primary challenges in at least two New York congressional districts.
In Manhattan, U.S. Rep. Dan Goldman ran against former city Comptroller Brad Lander. In the Bronx, U.S. Rep. Adriano Espaillat ran against Darializa Avila Chevalier. Lander has called the conflict in Gaza a genocide.
Goldman has condemned settler violence but stopped short of that description. Jack Schlossberg is running in a crowded primary for the seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler. The district covers much of central Manhattan.
Schlossberg faces state Assembly members Micah Lasher and Alex Bores, as well as George Conway. The mayor has made no endorsement in that race. In northern New York, Anthony Constantino faces state Assembly Member Robert Smullen in the Republican primary for the seat being vacated by U.S.
Rep. Elise Stefanik. President Trump has endorsed Constantino. ” Smullen has argued that Constantino’s public statements make him unfit for office.
