Airlines have hard-coded their reservations, passenger-service and baggage systems to route PBI searches to the renamed airport, industry analyst Henry Harteveldt said. Palm Beach County commissioners approved a licensing agreement in May allowing use of "Donald J. Trump" in the airport name.
Under the agreement President Trump receives no royalties, fees or merchandise revenue. The airport's website instructs passengers to continue using the PBI code until August 18. Flight attendants have been given discretion to greet passengers with "welcome to West Palm Beach" rather than the new name.
Nearly eight million passengers fly through the airport annually. There are 12 airports across the United States named after presidents.
