Panthers Acquire Markstrom, Send Rodrigues, Boqvist and Steeves to Devils in Five-Player Trade

The Florida Panthers are acquiring goaltender Jacob Markstrom from the New Jersey Devils in a five-player trade. The deal sends forwards Evan Rodrigues, Jesper Boqvist and Ben Steeves to New Jersey in exchange for Markstrom and forward Angus Crookshank. No salary is being retained on Markstrom’s contract.
Rodrigues, Boqvist and Crookshank each have one year remaining on their contracts. Steeves is set to become a restricted free agent. The Panthers previously acquired goaltender Akira Schmid from the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday.
The acquisitions position the Panthers to move on from Sergei Bobrovsky, who signed a seven-year, $70 million contract with Florida in 2019. Bobrovsky, 37, posted a career-low save percentage in the 2025-26 season. 883 save percentage in 44 appearances during the 2025-26 season.
922 save percentage, 37 wins and nine shutouts in 63 games with the Calgary Flames in 2021-22. 898 save percentage in 43 games during that time. He has appeared in 578 NHL games over 16 seasons.
