Pasadena Police Release Body Camera Footage of March Shootout

Newly released body camera footage shows the moment an armed suspect exchanged gunfire with police near the Sierra Madre Villa Metro station in Pasadena. The incident began around 7:30 p.m. on March 2 after police responded to a report of a shooting at the station. The suspect shot one victim in the shoulder before fleeing on foot.

An officer spotted the suspect several blocks away and pursued the individual through the neighborhood. The encounter quickly escalated into an exchange of gunfire, with nearby residents reporting 15 to 20 rounds fired. Bullet holes were later found in a nearby brick wall. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Pasadena resident Malcolm Buchanan, died at the scene.

Police also released cellphone footage that they believe shows the suspect sexually assaulting a second victim before running from the area. Investigators released an image of the handgun used during the confrontation. The shooting remains under investigation. Officials stated that the officer involved has been released from the hospital and remains on leave while recovering from injuries.
