Patrick Reed Misses Cuts at BMW International Open and U.S. Open

Patrick Reed missed the cut at the BMW International Open in Munich, Germany, with rounds of 72 and 71 for a 1-over total that left him three shots outside the line. He had also missed the cut at the U.S. Open after scores of 72 and 73 left him at 5-over par.

The two results came in the weeks before The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, which begins July 17. Reed had opened 2026 with two victories in his first three starts. He won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January and the Qatar Masters in February by two shots at 16-under par after holding the 54-hole lead.

He also finished runner-up at the Bahrain Championship and tied for 10th at the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club. Those results moved him to the top of the Race to Dubai standings with 2,259.70 points. His form through the first two majors of the year remained steady, with a tie for 12th at the Masters and the 10th-place finish at the PGA Championship.

Reed left LIV Golf in January 2026 to pursue a return to the PGA Tour pathway. He can compete on the PGA Tour as a non-member beginning August 25 and will be eligible in 2027 under the past-champion category after nine prior PGA Tour victories, including the 2018 Masters. Reed said at the Masters in April that every tool in his golf bag was sharp and ready to go.

The back-to-back missed cuts mark his weakest stretch since departing LIV Golf.
