Patriot Front Holds July 4 March in Washington With No Reported Violence or Arrests

Several hundred participants marched in Washington on July 4, 2026. Marchers wore masks, khakis, sunglasses, and hats. Some carried upside-down American flags and Confederate flags. A Reuters photographer captured an image of a Black woman on a Washington Metro train surrounded by march participants. The woman has not been identified.
The Metropolitan Police Department reported no arrests related to the march. A department spokeswoman stated that MPD recognizes individuals’ rights to peacefully express views and remains committed to public safety. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum stated on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the group’s views are disagreeable but protected by free speech.
Patriot Front was formed in 2017 by Thomas Rousseau after the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. The group has more than 200 members and claimed approximately 400 demonstrators took part in the July 4 march. In 2022, dozens of members were arrested on accusations of inciting a riot at a planned demonstration in Idaho.
Patriot Front’s stated goal is to transform America into a white ethnostate and return to the traditions and virtues of the nation’s forefathers, according to the Anti-Defamation League. The group promotes an ultra-nationalist ideology focused on creating a white ethnostate, according to the George Washington University Program on Extremism.
