In October 2025, Ryan Murphy announced that Ariana Grande would join the cast of the season.
Kelly previously played John F. Kennedy Jr. in Murphy's limited series Love Story: John F. Kennedy & Carolyn Bessette.
That series, which also starred Sarah Pidgeon as Carolyn Bessette and Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy, set a record as FX's most-watched limited series premiere on streaming. The announcement was made in an FX press release in April. American Horror Story is co-created and co-produced by Brad Falchuk.
