Paul McCartney Recalls Teen Hitchhiking Trip with George Harrison
Paul McCartney described a teenage hitchhiking trip with George Harrison that ended when Harrison received an electric shock from a milk delivery vehicle. The story later influenced a track on McCartney's upcoming album.
Fox NewsPaul McCartney shared a story from his teenage years about a hitchhiking trip he took with George Harrison while traveling toward Wales. During a recent appearance on "The Rest Is History" podcast, McCartney told host Tom Holland that the pair accepted a ride from a slow-moving electric milk delivery vehicle.
McCartney said the vehicle traveled about four miles an hour and that Harrison sat on a large battery positioned between the seats. Harrison received a shock when his jeans made contact with the battery through a zipper on his back pocket. McCartney recalled that Harrison jumped up and yelled after the contact occurred.
McCartney said the incident later inspired part of a song on his upcoming album "The Boys of Dungeon Lane," scheduled for release on May 29. He also mentioned recently speaking with Harrison's widow, Olivia Harrison, about the story. McCartney said she remembered the event differently and believed he had been the one shocked.
"I think it's amazing the way memory does that. It can just morph," McCartney said. Harrison died in 2001 at age 58 after a battle with cancer. He was a guitarist and songwriter in The Beatles alongside McCartney, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr.
