Paul Quinn, 52, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison after being convicted of raping a young mother in Salford in 2003. Mr Justice Bright passed the sentence at Manchester Crown Court.

The judge told Quinn the victim had thought she was going to die during the attack. He noted that police attention had quickly focused on Andrew Malkinson, who was wrongly convicted of the same offence and served 17 years in prison before his conviction was quashed.

Mr Justice Bright said Quinn had visited a Manchester Evening News story about Malkinson’s 2004 conviction. The judge told Quinn: “Neither of these things appears to have troubled you at any point during the 20 plus years that have passed.”

According to the BBC report, the rape took place in Salford in 2003. Sky News reported that Quinn was sentenced for raping a young mother.

Andrew Malkinson described the 24-year term as an insult.
