Paul Westhead receives Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award

The National Basketball Coaches Association named Paul Westhead recipient of its Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday. Westhead, 87, coached the Los Angeles Lakers to the 1980 NBA championship. He later coached the Phoenix Mercury to the 2007 WNBA title. His 1989-90 Loyola Marymount team led NCAA Division I in scoring for three straight seasons.
Coaching career Westhead held head-coaching positions across six decades.
He coached three NBA teams, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, three men's college programs, one women's college program, two ABA teams, and one professional team in Japan. " Past recipients include Don Nelson in 2025 and Rudy Tomjanovich in 2024. The presentation is scheduled for Game 2 of the NBA Finals in San Antonio on Friday night.
