Stripe and Advent International submitted a joint bid valued at $53 billion to acquire PayPal. The offer prices the company at $60.50 per share, a 28 percent premium to its closing price on Tuesday. PayPal is not interested in pursuing a deal with the bidders at this time, according to people familiar with the matter.
The company's board will meet in the coming days to discuss the offer. PayPal has been working with investment banks on takeover and activist defense for the last few months. It had already rejected initial overtures from Stripe earlier in 2026.
Spokespeople for PayPal and Stripe declined to comment. A spokesperson for Advent International did not respond to a request for comment. Stripe is currently valued at approximately $150 billion and ranks as the fourth-largest credit-card processor in the United States.
PayPal is the sixth-largest and maintains 430 million consumer accounts.
