Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi endorsed San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan on Monday in the race to succeed her in Congress. Pelosi, who announced in November she would not seek re-election after nearly 40 years representing San Francisco, said she had watched the campaign closely.

"I know and love this district.

I know the Congress, and I know Connie," Pelosi said in a video released with the announcement. " Pelosi added that Chan understands San Francisco's values, diversity, and communities and is ready to bring clarity and purpose to the work ahead.

Chan, 47, was born in Hong Kong and arrived in the United States at age 13 without speaking English. She has served on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors since 2021 and chairs the Budget Committee. Her main opponents include state Sen. 6 million by the end of March, and Saikat Chakrabarti, a former chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Voters will go to the polls on June 2 in an open primary.

If no candidate receives a majority, the top two finishers will advance to a November runoff. Chakrabarti said he is not seeking establishment support and instead focuses on building the largest field operation in San Francisco history.
