Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said a 2024 Supreme Court ruling granting presidents immunity from criminal prosecution enabled President Trump to earn more than $2 billion during his first year back in office. The governor made the comments Friday in an interview with MeidasTouch after the release of the president's 2025 financial disclosure report.
The report showed earnings more than triple the $600 million reported for the prior year, with more than $1 billion coming from cryptocurrency ventures including a memecoin and investments through World Liberty Financial.
Disclosure details The report listed substantial income tied to World Liberty Financial, a venture launched in 2024 by the president and his sons. Shapiro argued the earnings were made possible by the 6-3 immunity decision. " Shapiro said.
Calls for reform Shapiro said the president's focus on personal financial interests leaves Americans "worse off" and called for new federal anti-corruption laws. He suggested a possible 28th Amendment to impose stricter ethics requirements on presidents. Trump and his allies have said nothing illegal occurred.
