He told CNN that he wants to address what he described as misconceptions about his views. Shapiro said he supports the existence of Israel as a Jewish state while also favoring a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.

Shapiro is running for reelection this fall and has endorsed candidates in four Republican-held U.S. House districts in Pennsylvania. He said his picks won their primaries and that he aims to help flip those seats. At a May 19 rally, Shapiro spoke about state tax cuts and blamed higher health care costs on Trump and congressional Republicans.

He also said he is examining legal options to challenge a Justice Department announcement regarding IRS audits of Trump and his family.

Shapiro said Trump appears unable to focus on tasks such as reducing costs and added that it is getting harder for Trump to remain awake during meetings. White House spokesman Davis Ingle responded by calling Shapiro a "clueless little moron" and stating that Trump remains in excellent health.

Shapiro said his current priority is Pennsylvania and that he is focused on delivering results for state residents rather than national speculation.
